Virtual Reality Goggles

I received a set of virtual reality goggles for Christmas.  This is the Utopia 360°.

After about thirty minutes of setting up and downloading the Google Cardboard App, I tried with much difficulty to put the headset on which is a three sided elastic headband with the viewer in front.

I wear glasses and it was very uncomfortable and almost broke my new specs trying to get them to fit into the viewer.  So I took them off and the headset fit perfectly and felt comfortable.  Even though I need glasses for near and far, I could see pretty clearly without my prescription lens on.

I picked “Urban Tours” and found myself at the base of the Eiffel Tower in Paris then off to a canal in Venice and finished my virtual reality journey at a Pagoda in Tokyo.

I tried one of the Discovery Channel VR apps and it made me really nauseous and very dizzy.  After watching a version of VR Hawaii, I had to take the headset off and rest my eyes closed for 5 minutes sitting absolutely still before I felt well again.

There are many warnings about seizures in the instructions and to take a rest after every 30 minutes of use.

I haven’t tried it again since my visit to Hawaii, but it sure is amazing technology and really gives you a sense of being right there!
